SUPREME COURT.
In the last Government Gazette, there appeared notice that the Supreme Court would meet on Monday the Ist of June, for dispatch of Criminal business, and we presnme, that tiie Juries have been accordingly summoned. By the " Rules and Orders, touching the practice of the Supreme Court in New Zealand :" — the sittings for Civil cases are to take place, at Auckland and Wellington, in the months of March and September, and for Criminal cases only, in the months of June and December, in each year. Criminal cas,es to be taken on the first day of each ; Civil cases on the seventh. The second rule, however, states that, in case any of the days, aforesaid,shall fall on a Sunday or holiday, the Court shall be holden on the day following. In a subsequent clause, regulating " Holidays" and " officers of Court" among the days specially named are — Whit Monday — and — Whit Tuesday, which fall this year on the Ist and 2nd of June, — next Monday and Tuesday — consequently, the sittings of the Supreme Court cannot commence until Wednesday morning.
