LAND AGENTS MOVE.
i S'UCCESSFULLY OPPOSE LICENSL ' >
CHRISTCHURCH, Last Nighf, Objections to renewing a lafl® gent's licenso applied for hy Wil* kun John Miller, on behalf of H. H« ".ook and Co. Ltd., were heard he"pre Mr Young, S.M. to-day. Obiections were raised by the Land Agents' Association and thc grounds of the objecMon reiied on were the linancial position of the company i and the character of Cook. who, it • was alleged, had been acting as manager and director. contrary to thc decision of Mr Widdowson, S.M, in 1925. It was allege^ that Miller was acting as a dummy for Cook. For the defence Cook denied the suggestion of dishonesty and denied that he was managing-director, although he stated that his wife aBd himself were the largest shareholders. He denied also that the c.ompany's position was unsound, or that the trust account was improperly kept. The Magistrate stated that it evident that Miller had had nothing to do with the management for o long period last year and that ' Cook had been acting as director j and general manager. He was not i satisfied as to the financial posij tion of the company nor with the | evidence a; ti. Cook's character. I The application would therefore he ! dismissed and the objectors be allowed costs.
