. I | At the Timani railway station yes- ; terday, the Ministei* of Public W orks (Hon. K. S. Williarps) received a deputation from the South Canterbury Oiiamber of Commerce, consisting of Messrs R. B. Bell (president), P. B. Foote (vica-presideut), and W. G. Irwin. Mr T. D. Burnett, M.P. was also .present. The deputation reminded the MinIster of his promise to visit South Canterbury in connection with a second source of hydro-electrical power supply for Canterbury and North Otago, and asked him to name a date. The Minister replied that the report on the probable sources had been compieted only on Saturday, and had been delivered that day to Mr F. T. MKissel (chief electrical engineer to the Public Works Department). It had taken a loug time to prepare the report, which he had not yet been able to see. He recognised, however, that the whole question involved was one of moment to South Canterbury and to the contiguous distriets both north and south, and he would take steps to announce the conclusion reached in the report at the earliest possible date. The Minister added that he hoped to be ahlei to arrange to visit Timaru and the prospective various sources of power on his return from the south in about a week or ten days' time.
