General relief was felt when seven nuns staggered bravely into the settlement, hring children from the hurnt orphanage. There was^a pathetic sight when the nuns, ini cluding several Chinese sisters, ujiaccompanied by male escorts, arrived at the harricades followed and 'surrounded by over three hundred white-faced, silent. terrified children, a mixtnre of all nations, Eurasians predominating.
