THE BRITISH VIEW

BEKLIN. March 22. ^ The desire to preserve peace in Europe is rooted so strongly in all countries that a breach between Italy and Jugo-Slavia would be condemned throughout the world, declared Dr Stresemann in the Reichstag. "I do not believe there is acute danger, but a cairn survey discloses that the final consolidation of the general international situation is still distant. Germany's position is definitely definecl by the Locarno Paict, entry to the League and the German-Russo agreement. Therefore, she will refrain from interference in Jugo-Slavia but if summoned to co-operate, her efforts will only be aimed at removing the causes of friction." LONDON, March 22. No further development has arisen over the Italy and Jugo-Slav trouble. It is understood that the British Ministers at Belgrade and Rome are using their influence in favour of a suggested inquiry into Italy's charges by the Corps of Military Attaches. Nobody has yet inoved in the direction of inviting ihe League's assistance. The British view is that this probably is unnecessary, but Downing Street is in no way opposed to reference of the matier at Geneva. Well-inform- i ed circles summed up the situation i to-day by declaring that the Press, j for oiicc had served-a most useful i purpose. The wide publicity j through Europe at the week-end en- j tirely knocked the bottom out of | Mussolini's little game and remov- | ed the danger of a rapid flare-up. 1 It has forced Mussolirii to realise j the danger of going too far .
