TRENTHAM, Last Night. ' The King's Prize matcli of 1927 will not soon be forgotten fpr two ' reasons. It was lircd in pouring rain throughout with a nasty left rear wdnd fishtailing away for dear life to add to the niarksmen's trouhles due to the poor visibility of the targets, and, in the seccnd plaice. it saw Roots, the vetcran from Patea, acclaimed for the third time King's Prizeman of New Zealand after a fm'e uphil fight in which he gained three points advahtage over yestcrday's leader (Keir) and li'fted himself from fourth place to premier position. Whiteman, who was third yesterday, retained that place 1 four points ibehind Roots and Nicholl I had a had run to-day dropping from Fifth to twenty-seventh. Sharland who had been tailing Nicholls had nearly as bad luck. Notable men in the ascending scale were Kihblevvhite (who last year was champion. tyro) and J. C. Carter. The former, by a line 46. came up to fifth and Carter with one less, broug'ht himself into seventh position.
