TRENTHAM, Last Night. The weather to-day kept fine but gusty and cold, a rear wind fishtailing from seven or eight degrees to the x'ight with an occasional flicker to the left, xxiaking conditions unusually hard even for Trentham. Despite all adverse influences however, some -good scoxung was recorded though the major nuxnber were indifferent and there were frequent "crashes" of men who had been leading. With the Otago match (10 slxots at 800 and 900 yards) to be added to-morrow, West is leading for the Belt, followed by Roots one point away and three others a point behind him. Roots is already twice a King's pxuze man, but West has not achieved that djstinction, though he has been runner-up twice, and on another occasion has made valiaxxt efforts. A victory for him now would be popular. Following are leaders with six matches gone out of seven which qualify foxq entry into the King's lxundred to fire for the Relt: — W. H.
