CHAMPION OF CHAMPIONS. MEADOWBANK WINS RINKS AND PAIRS, j PHOENIX TAKES SINGLES. There was a busy scene on the Phoenix green on Saturday when representatives of the Meadowbank, Pukeuri, Awamoa ,and Phoenix Clubs played off the champion of chamjpionships of the rinks, pairs and singles. Gonsidering the rainfall of the night before the greenkeeper had got' the rinks into wonderful condition, and a baffling wind which had been blowing during the day calmed down towards evening, enabling the finals to_ be played off under the best auspices. Some very keen and interesting bowls Was seen particularly in the pairs final which was a ding dong contest all the way. Results in detail are as follows: — RINKS. Glbson, psee, Blacklock, Martin (Meadowbank) 19, heat Common, Sutridge, Easton and Dnmbleton ^.(Pukeuri) 10. A. Robertson, Pollock,' Grant, J. Robertson (Phoenix) 35, beat Dunbar, Buist, Cook, Mollison (Awamoa) 12. Final— Meadowbank heat Phoenix, 17-12. . Playing steadily and consistently, and beating their opponents man for m.an, Meadowbank went into the lead from the beginning and held the advantage throu'ghout. _ Phoenix managed to keep the scoring down and to improve their total on the last few heads, but undoubtedly the fietter team won; THE PAIRS. H. Donald and E. Hedges (Meadi owbank) 28, beat Restall and Murj ray (Pukeuri) 16. Auty and Calder i (Phoenix) 21, beat M'Donald and. ! Walton (Awamoa) 11. Final — Don- | ald and Hedges 21, beat Auty and ! Calder 18. I The Phoenix representatives went j away at the start and led by 12 j points to 3. Then Meadowbank, i chiefly through the excellent leading of Donald, won several heads in succession and the game became 12 and then 13 all. Then the Phoe- I nix representatives went to the ! front .again and got to 16-13, but the Meadowbank representatives, play- ! ing with indomitable steadiness and . with sound judgment, added to the j score point by point and won a , tense match by a narrow margin. j THE SINGLES. J. Robertson (Phoenix) 20, beat j Campbell (Meadowbank) 14. Molli- j son (Awamoa) 21, beat Murray (Pu- , keuri) 19. Final — Robertson beat • Mollison by 19 to 15. I Robertson won by the excellence j | of his bowling, though his oppon- | I ents kept him busy. After four sun- j cessive seasons as runner-up his is ! a well-earned victory. THE SHIELD PRESENTED, In an interval in the tournament Mr E. F. Armstrong, President of the Centre, took the opportunity of presenting Meadowbank representatives with the championship teams shield presented for the annual in- ' ter-clubs competition by Mr und Mrs Stewart Mills. He congratulated them upon being thp champion bowling club of North Otago. Mr M'Kay, receiving the shield — a par- . ticularly ornate and handsome trophy— on behalf of the winners, ! said that being largely composed of i Scotsmen, Meadowbank would hang on to it as long as they could. But if they lost it they would like to see it gp round to one of the younger clubs, Awamoa or Pukeuri. Mr Easton, of the Pukeuri Club, also congratulated the winners,
