The new award for furniture makers in- Northern Wellington, Canterbury, Otago and Southland .industrial districts, filed yesterday, fixes 2s 3d per hour as the minimum rate for journeymen for a 44 hour week. Picture frame makers an;d> wire mattress makers minimum is 2s 1M per hour and timber stackers Is 104d per hour. Females of the age of 16 and over may be employed weaving -wire mattreSses at the following minimum rates: First year 22s 6d; second year 29s 6d; third year 39s 6d; fourth year £2 7s; fifth year £2 17s. The award operates for two years from April 4, 1927.
