COLLISION ON HUTT ROAD.

WELLINGTON, Saturday. A serious collision occurred on the Hutt Road, about half-way between Petone and the tity at 12.15 p.m. to-day, resulting in severe injuries to Mrs Prater, aged 36, of Miramar. Four others were less seriously injured. Mr Prater sustained cuts abont the.neck. Mrs Prater suffered injuries to the back and legs and was reported this afternoon to be in a serious condition. Mr William Cragg, aged 24, was cut about the head. ,Mrs Cragg, his yvife, received cuts about the face, Miss Jellerman receibed cuts about the face. A light, flbe-seater motor-car, on its way to the races, was driben by j. A. W. Prater, an employee in the City Milk Depot, who had four passengers. The driver of the motor car, it is stated ,swung out to pass a motor-bus. intending to go between it and a two-ton motor lorry, belongjng to Messrs Curtis Bros and driven by Jack Deslandes Cross, which was coming into town on its right side of the road. As there was not room between the bus and the

lorry, it is understood, JPrater crossed right over the road and endeavoured to pass the lorry. Both vehicles were goiiig fairly fast and the heavy lorry struck a left wheel of the car, almost cutting the vehicle in two and completely wreclcing it on thaf side. The occupants of the motor car wer.e thrown under it. B. S. Morrison traffic Inspector on Hutt Road, was some fifty ya-rds behind motor-car when it swerved out from behind the lorry and saw all that happened. Morris-' on, assisted by Cross, at once proceeded to extract the injured people.
