Batting first, Wanganui made 177 of which Kerr made 77 andThakabau 75. Both batted brightly, but the rest of the side failed. Palmerston were dismissed for 92. Burgess, a slow right-hander, bowling exceedingly well to take eight for 31. In the second knock Wanganui had lost none for 30 when the match abandoned through rain.
