ATHLETICS.
i- I SATURDAY'S SPORTS MEETING. WHIPPET RACING A FEATURE. On - Saturday next the North Otago Caledonian Society will stage an attrajctive programme of athletic events at 'the showgrounds. The introduction of whippet races is arousing unusual interest and is sure to prove an excellent draw. The whippet, which is slightly smaller than a greyhound, displays a wonderful turn of speed over a short distance and the Society has arranged an event in which one of these dogs is to give A. A. Cameron, the crack North Otago sprinter, 32 yards in 100. The ladies' races have been exceptionally well patronised as a glance at the handicaps will show, and keen contests should result in the other events. r THE HANDICAPS. 100 Yards Handicap, ladies. — Misses J.
