HELPING THE BOWLER.
HINT TO CRICkETER^. A hint which should be remembered by. cricketers when in the field is given by M. A. Noble. It is wise and helpful,, whenever possible, he says, to throw the ball on the full to the bowler. It saves him stooping and helps him to last longer at the bowling crease. If he fails to gather it the nearest man should at once move and quickly pick it up. This is in the keeping'with the spirit of first-class cricket. There is nothing finer in cricket than the spectacle of a teaim, smartly dressed, moving briskly. into position, each man knowing exactly where to go for the different batsmen, and getting there as quickly as possible, backing up each other, and keeping an eye on the captain, so that only a slight movement of the hand is necessary when an alteration of position is required, without the batsman's knowledge. Their smartness and intelligence ' begets combination, breeds a feeling of confidence and security in their supporters, and so impresses their opponents that they will take a whole heap of heating. Even wh^sbowling is good, run-making difficult andl batting, perhaps, uninteresting, a good fielding team pleases the onloolcers. All cricketers who are worth their salt know these things, but some do n6t attach sufiicient importance to their general application. with the result that teamwork is below standard.
