11 f MONTHLY MEETING. j At the » monthly meeting of the ! Council of the North Otago Acclimatisation Society, Mr L. II. Sumpter presided over the following attendance — Messrs C. H. Swinard, J. E. Swinard, II. Keen, W. Duncan, A. Tiddy, E._ C. Beswick, and \Y. Dewar. The secretary reported that the notice board at Waitaki Bridge Reserve had been renewed. It was decided to point out . the danger of lighting fires in the vicinity. It was decided to procure from the Otago Society 25,0€0: rainbow ova. 'Permits to cull deer were granted to James N. M'Kenzie and party, J. A. Amies and party, and E. A. Fox and party. The secretary was in&tructed to write to the Minister of Internal Affaii's to find out howr far the forestry ranger's authority extended. J. I. Paul, caretaker of the Kaike Reserve, wrote asking that the Council issue a warning to people to be very careffil of fire in the neiglibourhood of the reserve. He also asked that the trees be topped to about 12ft and trimmed up 6ft from the ground. — The ReseryesCommittee was authorised to visit the reserve and to act. The Waimate Society advised that a delegation from their Council would be pleased to confer with the local Society at Oamaru about a ' week after Easter on matters of mutual interest. The Otago Society advised having booked the Society's order for 50,000 Scotchburn fry, and would enoieavour to fill as much of the order as possible.
