A DISAPPOINTING FIELD
( Oable-
— Copyrlglit.)
SYDNEY, Last Night. r A steamer brought fourteen thousand ounces of gold valued at £35.000— one of the largest shipments yet made from the New Guinea gold fields. A number of miners wbo were unable to obtain leases on the fields returned. A considerable number more of disappointed men are waiting to obtain passages. Some of the returnees declare that the reports of the richness of the field are greatly exaggerated. Prospectors are building great hopes of better transport thereby widening the prospects of exploring the gold-bearing area when aeroplane transit commences towards the end of Aprii.
