INVERCARGILL, Last Night. The Melbourjie-Southland mateh continued today in excellent weather. Rain fell overnight but had n.o detrimental effect. Melbourne continued their first innings adding 20 for the last wicket, making a total of 227 ahead of Southland, At 11,45 Southland comiuenced their. second innings, but fared worse than in the first strike and just evaded an innings. defeat by 8 runs. Goodsir and Cook saved the position from being a real rout, six wickets being down for 48 when the pair hecame assqciated. By foreing cricket they added 41 runs for the seventh wicket. Included in Goodsir's total of 32 were four fours and a five. At luncheon adiournment Southland were 61 .for 6. The remaining 48 were put on a good time after lunch.
