TRANS-EMPIRE AIRSHIP j BUILDING. !
(Oable-
I — Copynisrht.) !
Received Wbdnesday 5.5 p.m. ! LONDON, March 8. j The difficulty of finalising the ] plans for the trans-Empire airship j route is revealed by the Auditor-. General's disclosure that £14,800 was paid as compensation to the \ framework contractors. The Air • Ministry in January, 1026, placed, j without calling for tenders, a pre- i mature contract on the basis of the j actual cost of labour and materials j plus establishment charges. The j airship was to be completed by De- ; cember, 1926, but at that. date pro- j gress was small due to the Minis- j try's difficuliies in supplying tech- j nical information. The firm applied j for compensation, to which the j Treasury assented, simultaneously extending the date for colpletion to Ihe end of i927. u'hi
