GRAIN AND PRODUCE.

Messrs Donald Reid and Co., Ltd., report as under: — ..... Oats — Threshing is in full swing and a little business is passmg with the new grain. Yields are exceptionally good in some eases, and again, very poor in others. ihe. quality of the oats shown so far is only fair. Saies have been made at 2's 3d for A Gartons and 2s ld for B. Gartons, sacks extra, on trucks, country stations. ° „ Chaff— Local demand is well catered for and values remain at a low ebb. Prime oaten sheaf can be readily disposed of but should it be light or slightly discoloured a different proposition arises, ancl saies are hard to effect. Prime oaten sheaf £4 5s, mediqm to £4, inferior £3, sacks extra in each case. Wheat— There is an easing tendency all round and values declined fully a penny during the week. This is no doubt caused by the Canterhury farmers selling more freely and millers having ampie stocks to carry them over until their forward purchases come to hand. 5s 6 ti on trucks for Tuscan, with extra money for Velvet and Hunter varieties is top value to-day. Potatoes — There is still a glut in this market and consumers are buving only for immediate requirements. Blight is very prevalent and will probably be a deciding factor in value later on. Well picked over lines are worth to £f, sacks jn, exstore. Messrs Dalgety and Co., Ltd., report as follows: — Oats — The market is still very riull with practically no business passing. Most of the crops in the dislrict have been cut, but threshing is not yet gcneral. _ An odd samDle is now making its appearance on llie market, but buyers are anything but keen lo operatev The ^North. Island demand is still being

supplied from Canterbury resulting in practically no inquiry for oats being experienced at this centre. Nominal value of A Gartons is 2s 3d per' bushel and B Gartons 2s ld per bushel, on trucks, country stations. Wheat — This market is also quiet with values easier. Millers have bought fair supplies in Canterbury and are showing no inclination to buy except at reduced'prices. Farmers are not disposed to sell at the millers' offers and consequently little business is at prescj^ passing. Tuscan is •nominally wlfth 5s 6d per bushel, on trucks, country stations, with the usual increase for Hunters and Velvet varieties. Potatoes — A good quantity of potatoes is still coming to hand" and it is very difficult to effect saies. A big number of the consignments coming to hand are affected with blight and have to be sold at once for whatever they will bring. Good tables, free frdm blight, are to-day worth £4 per ton, ex store, sacks in. 'Chaff — The quantity coming forward is quite sufficient to meet the » demand. Canterbury is s'upplying the North Island with its requirements and so no shipping whatever is being dorie from this port. The local demand is very small and it does no't take a big quantity to meet this. Prime oaten sheaf £4 5s, medium £4/ inferior £3 per ton, sacks extr.a.
