LEAGUE OF NATIONS

UNDER GERMAN PRESIDENT. • - V A -

(Australian. and N.Z. Press Association. )_ Received Tuesday, 10.15 p.m, LONDON, March' 8. The League of Nations Council, with Dr Stresemann presiding, opened with a humorous incident, a photographer asking M. Briahd to move a little to the right. "Ahl" said M. Briand, "that is what many people want me to do!" After that the report of the_Man~ dates 'Commission was adopted. This rejected the hearing of petitioners by ;a commission on the grounds previously cabled. It was considered that wliile the Commission should be available to jdl p'ossible sources of informaTion it would be undesirable to attain this object by a means which inigfft alter the character of tbe commission itself. The Council also considered affairs between Hungaity and Rumania, and the report of the •League's Health Committee, whereupon Sir Austen Chamberlain again drew attention to the absence of women representatives. It was decided to refer this matter to a committee. It is understood that if Chu attempts to inflnence the Council regarding China affairs the Kuomintang delegates will ohserve a com- I plete silence. It is helieved that in i any case a puhlic discussion upon | China will be avoided at the pres- ! ent _ session, though much may be i Uecided privately. ' i - . !
