WELLINGTON, Last Night, Wellington's formal introduction to the Ditko and Duchess of York was one to be remembered, The weather was at its best; bright sunshine with a light hrecze hlowing, and streets filled with erowds to witness the passing of the. Royal procession from Government house to the Town Hall for the civic re~ ception which wa.s very enthusiastic and a great success, After the civic reception their Royal Highnesses returned to Government house. Enthusiastic welcomes greeted them where, ver they went, and their Royal Highnesses made gracious sfcknowledgments. One of the chief functions to-day was the opening of the Karitane home at Melrose by the Duchess of York. At 12.15 p.m., on her journey through Newtown, her Royal Highness was loudly cheered by crowds pf spectators who lined the whole of the route from Government house to the back of Newtown Park. The military pageant and children's living flag display at Newtown Park was attended by Their Highnesses, and the park was packed by enormous crowds , of people. A living flag display by many thousand children was wonderfully effective, and evoked many outbursts of applause. A hall at Government house to-night completes the day's programme. While the Duchess was at Karitane Home the Duke was taken for a motor trip up Hutf Valley, inspecting the new workers' homes | settlement en route. His Royal Highness was impressed by the beauties of the valley and by what | was being done to meet the housing i shortage.
