HARBOR CHARGES.

Sir, — I thank you for your articlo in the paper this morning in which you agroe with me that tho charges, on Homo vessels railing from this port are " iniquitous," and ought in all fairness to bo adjusted in the manner roccommended by tho Standing Committee of the Board. I havo not, however, been bo successful in convincing you that the ioterprovinoial and iuttrcolonial are alike anomalous, but as this trade is practically in the hands of the Union Company it motors little whether any change ia effected. The Committee of the BoarJ, in dealing with the intercolonial and coastal trade treated it separately from tho United Kingdom shipments, and framed the consolidated rate t:> produoe a revenuo of LllBO, or L2O less thui the Union Oom« pany had aolually paid the Board luring last year. Hoir, then, oan you justify my opponents at the Board in voting against the new aohome, when ib was per* feotly woll known by the members that the Board had no intention of " inoreasing ratea and charges ?" The average charge to the Union Company last yoar wan lOf d per ton on cargo carried, although acme of their vessels paid aa high as 3d 2£d per ton.
