Tho caso against the Commercial Bank of Australia to recover possession of a cheque for L 2700 and a deposit receipt for L7OOO has been settled, both parties paying their own costs. The terms of the settlement) have not boen allowed to transpire.
Melbourne, May 3. Arrived— Star of England, from London. Later patticuhna of the Dooley tragedy show that Mra Dooley was a hard working woman. Her husband illreated her, and fearing that her life was in danger sho obtained a warrant tor his arrest, and it was the intention of the pohco to executo it this morning. Dooley, however, broko into the housp with an axe before daylight, and afteu gashing his wife with the axe took her by the hair and out her throat. Six children huddled together in bed wore helpless witnesses of the tragedy. Dooloy theu wont to Ins mother-in-law's room, and dealt her a fearful blow with tho axe, and afterwards nearly severed her head from hor body with * razor.
