Dean lias been leleased from solitary confinement pending the result of a Royal Com mission. Peculiar cases have been commenced in the Equity Court against the Commercial Hank of Australia. The plaintiff, who is a lady, seeks to recover possession of a cheque for L 27,000, and the deposit receipt for L7OOO. The statemont of claim alleges that while plaintiff's son-in-law was in the service of tho bank he misappropriated the funds of the institution, and that the inspector of the bank offered to release L5OOO of tho deposit receipt of L7OOO, the balanco remaining on deposit, and the whole amount being held under tho reconstruction scheme if the plaintiff would pay the defalcations. The plaintiff, under pressure, complied with the request in order to save her son-in law, and she now seeks to have tho settlement declared void.

Melbourne, May 1. Premier Turner replied in bitter language to the Argus article, which commented unfavorably on his connection as counsel for the defence in the Greener gun case. Turner says he would sooner throw up the Premiership than sacrifice the interests of his clients who hayo relied upon him for over ten years. In reply to the charges that ho h*s brought discredit on the colony by his action, Turner says the Argua by its leading articles had dragged down the colony's securities until it was nearly ruined.
