SCHOOL COMMITTEE ELECTIONS.
KAKANUI. Ab the annual meeting of householders there was a large attendance Mr Charles Rua.ell was voted to the chair. The annual reporb waB read as follows : On retiring your Committee have the honor to reporb that they held 13 meetings during the year which, on bhe whole, were well attended by members, who have taken great ia beresb in inabters oonneoted with bhe 83DOO1. Ib is with pleasuro thab we have again to congratulate the householders of the districb on the high state of efficiency of bhe school, and the teaching BtalF are to be praised for the manner in which they have performed their dutiep. The school was examined on bbc 11th September, 18 D4, by In B|ectors Goyen ond Fitzgerald, which resulted very satisfactorily, giving a high percentage of passes. Mi 39 Marion Burns de, mistress of the tchool, senb in her resignation on 31st August, and oub of 21 applicants for the position, the Committee recommended Mies Catherine I. Faulds to the Education Beard. Misß Fauids had been Mistress of the Otikia school over furf >ur years and comes here with excellent testimonies ; sinoe baking up her duties on bhe leb November the has been working with energy and B»bisfiction, The average abtendanca during the year has been 84 aa against 8G for the previous year. Arbor Day. — Owing to no ground being available the Commiteea wore unable to celebrate Arbor Day by the planting of trees, bub would recommend the incoming Committee to have the ground prepared on the south side of the playground, aud a continuation of the row of macrocarpa trees planted. Entertainment. — Tbe annual con cerb was held in the AtheDfcum Hall on the 19th July and was a great success, resulting in the net gain to the school fund of L 7 12s, after paying all expenses. As the school buildings and fences are all in good order, we would recommend that the proceeds of the next concert be taken to form a per, and ink fund. Improvements, — Tbe asphalting round the schoolhouse doors having become much broken, we called for tenderß to have >t renewed, but cauld get none. We bad therefore to do it by day labor, but it has not been so successful as could be desired. The accommodation in tbe teachers' residence having become insufficient for his family, through his having to use one of the bedrooms as store room and milk-bouse, we decided to erecb a wash-house and a store-room ab n cost of LI I 20, which has been found a great convenience As recommended by tbe|'ate Committee we procured 18 fruib brees for tbe school garden, which bhe teaoher planted. Tbe wa'l paper in two front rooms of the residence having become much worn and dirby, bhe Committee have had them papered. The aunual picnic was held on the 26 h December, ab Windermere, by the kind permission of Mr Stevenson : where tbe children enjoyed themselves with the customary games, the successful competitors receiving useful articles as prizes, and all beirjg regaled with cake and other good things in abundance. Each child also received the present oi a nice book, and prizes were given in each class for the most r $ular attendance throughout the year, funds being raised by subscriptions amongst the parents and residents of the distr ct. The Committee commenced bhe year with a credib balance of L 7 16a Id ; received from Educabion Board, ordinary grants, L 29 19s ; special grant, subsidy on local contribution, hi de Gd ; from other sources, L 7 12s. Total, L 49 16s 74 ; and we have oxpended L 42 Is lOd, lowing a credib balance ofLJlis 9d as shown by balance" sheet. The election of a new election resulted as follows : Messrs A. Thomson 3t, D. M'Lennnn 31, J. Robertson 2G, H. M'Kay 30, M. Morton 31, C. Russell 20, F. Gunn 21, J. M'Gregor 23. j
ENFIELD. A meetiog of householders was held in the Teaneraki schoolhouse on Monday e?ening, with bub a moderate attendance. Mr Telfer was voted to the chair. The reporb, which waa read, showed thab thingß during the year had gone on harmoniously, that the school reporb waa considered very satisfactory, sad bhat a bank balance of upwards of Ll4 was on the credib side of the ledger. Nominations were then called for, bub only live gentlemen consented to stand ; these were — Messrs Telfer, Cox, Clinton, Robinson, and Carson, bwo vacancies being lefb for the Committee to till up. A vote of thanks to the chair termioated the proceedings.
IN'CHOLME. The householders in the Incholme District met in the schoolhouse. There was a good attendance, and the following report was submitted : Your Committee have again much pleasure in presenting their annual report and balance sheet. During the year improvements have been made which cosb close upon LlO, and which are just 'jompleted, Bub the subsidy thereon from the Education Board is nob ye 1 ) received, and a number of the accounts are nob yeb paid, and, therefore, do not appear on the balance sheet. Your Committee s'arted with a cash balance of LI S 19j sd. The receipts from the Education Board for the year as shown by the abstract of school fund account), amounts to Ll3 14s, making a total of L 29 13s sd. September Mrs Gardiner waa ap pointed, who held office only till the month of January, when she resigned, and Miss Richmond was appointed, who, judging from her test monials, is woll qualified for the position. On the 20th of July a very successful concert was held in aid of the prizo fund, ut which the sura of LlO 11s was netted, makiug the total to credit of that account LlO 16s. The sum of L 5 was spent in prizes and sports ab the breaking up of the school for the Christmas holidays, leaving L 5 IGs to credit. Thanks are also due to Mr J. D. Seivwright, who kindly gave two lectures during tho year in aid of tho School Library, and twenty additional books were thereby added to it. Tho Inspector's report on the examination of the school is favorabl*. Tho aveiage numl>er of ch'ldron at present on the ro'l for the year is 39 1, and the average attendance for i ho year w,»s 36*5. On tho 4th April a largo number of the children and a fow parents took advantage of the cheap railway fares to Dunedin, and the children were shown through tho museum, and appeared to bo delighted wi'h their trip. Your Committee, during tho your, hold 14 meetings, which were attended by the different members as follows : Messr* M' Bride (chairman) 11, Gemmell (secretnry and treasurer) 14, M'Doaald H, M'Koe 13, llobb 12, Youart 11, Stevenson 8. The old Committee were re-elected, vi/ , Messrs M 'Bride, Gemmell, M'Ponald, M'Koo, Stevenson, Youart, and Robb. Mr Robb was appointed chairman, and Mr Gemmell, secretary and treasurer for the ensuing year.
