Tho Government htvo deoided to en* courage the coal industy by making a reduction of 20 per cent in railway freight! on til coal intendpd for export They hare also resolved, in the interacts qt farmers, that grass need grown in the country and seat by rail to any of the towns in order to be dreised, shall be carried free on the railway, provided tha seed is for the bona fide use of firmer*. Nearly 3000 factories have been registered up to date in the various towni of the colony. Ohriitohursh heads the list with 628 factories, Auckland has 468, Wellington 430, Dunedln 425, Inrercar* gill 127, Napier 106, Timaru 101. The rest of the towns number under 100 each. Charles Robinson, ag«d about 50 years, has been arrested on suspicion of being con* cerned in the recent gold robbery at the Muieum. Robinson was on tho point of going on board the ateamer bound for Auckland. In his poisoMion were found a quantity of gold aust (probably two or threo ounces in weight) and two quartz specimen*. Sir James Hectoi has identified these as having belonged to the Museum*
