An important case wss depided before Judga Ward, sitting in the District Court hera yesterday. Tho Official Assignee, as liquidator of the Alexander Gold Dredging Company, applied to have certain paid-up shares puced on the list of contributors. The evidence showed that the company hid acqjired a dredging area from the parties who originally took it up, on the understanding that they were to reoeire iv all 10,000 pad up shares out of » total of 24,000, and LIOOO from the first gold profits. At the time of (he disposal to the company the party weie making good wage", and the first foot months' dredging operations broughb in 540 ounoes of gold. Tho company hud also agreed to erect a substantial dredge on the rlrer. His Honor held that the renter* was genuine. The paid-up shareholders had given full value, and had not received the LlOOO atrreed upon. He refused, therefore, to make the order to have them made contributors. Ao old and respected miner named Thomas Keating died in the hospital today. The mail coaoh from IJelson broke an axlt yesterday near Hope Junction, and the occupant* were thrown out, but escaped without injury. They were Mr Montgomery (M.H.R, for E lesmere), «nd Meaars Mueller and Browning (Comnmalooori of Crown Lands Auckland and Jtfelaon respectively), Blow (Under Secretary of Public Works), and H. Gully (a Wellington solicitor).
