The Premier informs Inspector Hickson that it is best to make as strong a show of the Government forco as possible, adding that in a matter of this kind expense is immaterial. The steamer Chelmsford left at 4,30 p.m. for Whakatane with 30 constables, with revolvers, under Inspector Hickson, •nd 25 of the to-ppdo and permanent force, under Lieut.
