THE ALDERSHOT DISQUALIFICATION. THE CASE TO BE RE-OPENED.
A meeting of the btewardi of tho North 0 ago Jockey Club was held in the RpcreUry's office yesterd »y afternnon. There were present: Messrs J. F. R;id (PresU dont. in the chair), C. W. Roid, ft. A. Chaffey, W. B.e, G. M. Procter, M. Fagan, \V. Gardiner, H. Schlutor, 0. C. Probert, A. G. Creagh, E. P. 13urbury, and G. R, Hislop (secretary). The minutes of the previous mooting were roid and confirmed. Tho President Blared that the meeting lnd been called to consider tho letter of Mr Ja<>. M'Kewan, owner of the horse Aldershob that hid been disqualified for inconsistent running at the late races, Thero was considerable discussion as to whether tho stewards should re-open tho case, and on tho motion of Mr Cre*gh, seconded by Mr C. W. Roid, it was decided to hear further evidence. Mr M'Kewan's letter to tho Club, which has aleady been published in these columns, was then read and discussed. Tho loiter stated th*t acoording to tho "Rules of Racing" Mr Burbury, «ho acted as judge, was not a steward, and could not adjud cate upon the case. It was pointed out that the regulations of the North Otago Jookoy Cub provided for several officers biitig ro* cognised as steward?, and tho judge was one. Tho judge always had been a steward. A letter to tho Secretary of tho Dunodin Jockey Clu'j was read putting tho position of the North Otago Jockey Club explicitly before tho Motropol tun, and stated tint a meeting would be called to consider Mr M'Kewan's lettter. A telegram was received from Mr G. G. Stead, of Chriotchurch, a former owner of Aldershot : " Aldcrshot was an honest, reliable, consistent, second-class horse when 1 owned him." After discussing tho matter at longth, it was stated that tho Club had no desiro to deal unfairly by Mr M'Keitan, who had stated that he had fresh And convincing ovidence to bring before tho stewards with respect to the straightness of the running of Aldorshot in tho Cup race, and the stewards Agreed to take what further evidence Mr M'Kewan had to bring forward to show cause why the disqualification should not be acted upon. Tho meeting was then ordered to stand adjourned till Wednesday next, 24 h inst., at 2.30, for the purposo of giving Mr M'Kewan an opportunity of bringing further ovidence.
