Just before the arrival of the express train from Christchurch on Sdlurnay at Be^cliff* quantity of sleepers were found \p have been placed on tho line. Hid these not been noticed the result would probtbly have been serious, f)s the train was a heavy one. The last tennis match betwesn Canterbury and Oago was concluded to-day. Otago won by 07 seta to Canterbury's 28. Boddington being unable to play to-day two eeta went by default to Canterbury. The session of the Grand Lodge J,Q.tr.T M yas hold to-day, about 300 lodges bitng represented by delegates. Br >. R N. Adams presided, aud in welcoming the delegates said progress had been made all along the line. In the evening aboub 200 Templars in Dunedin were received as visi'ors. Among those giving addresses was Mr Fish, M*yor of t£ie city. lie said he thought by ellraipiting the clause deatyng with reduction they were making a tactical blunder, ami putting back the cause, At the annuil meeting of the Otago Rugby Union, which is now (11,60) proceeding, the motion thab it it not desirable to affiliate ttiih tho New Zealand Union, was lost by one vote. Tho voting was 25 for the motion and 26 pgalnst.
