A LABOR CONFERENCE.
(BY TKDEORArH.) Chrlstchurcii, April 13. The annual Conforonco of dolega»es of tho Trades and Labor Council opened here to-day. Mr H. Milligan (Christchurch Trades Council) was elected President. Mr H. C. Jones was re-elected Secretary. The business of tlio opening session was only to arrange subsequent procedure. The Conference h expected to laat eovon days. It was decided to admit the Press and accredited membors of affiliated Unions. The order piper has givon notice of extension of tho municipal franchise, a State tailoring workshop, Chinese and Assy linns, member of Court Arbitration, a federation .'Chemo, coolie labor on mail contract boats, employment of female clerks by the Government, cooperative labor extension, Buy Labor, Amendment of the Factories Act, clauses 54 and 55, a Labor paper, a Labor Parliament, political platform, and Labor Bills. The Bills laid on the table aro : Undesirable immigrants extension, 8 hours, master and apprentice, fair tenders and co-opetativo labor extension, wages attachment abolition, labor department, and 6»rvanti registry office. Tho Hon. Mr Reeves, in reply to a request from tho chairman, will address the Conference on Monday.
