At % public mooting »t Little River it was res jlred to petition the Minister for Lands to acquire land in Lho district for settlement. It was stated that the local sawmill would shortly close, and a number of men would be thrown on the overstocked labor market unless steps to Benin them on the land were fciken. The rain which svt in on Friday n'ght has with a slight intermission continued ever nnce. The prospects of a fine day to-morrow are rather doubtful. At Oxford and other districts under the hills there was a heavy fall of snow, Tho inter-club match, Wellington v. Christchurch was played on tho Christ College ground nn Saturday afternoon. The visitors played much better than the local men. In the first spell Gallagher scored a try. In the second Bpell the Christchurch men put more life into their piny and frequently had the ball in Wellington's 25, T. Middleton scored a try, no goal boing kicked. The game ended in a draw. The ground was slippery, and rain fell nt intervals during the match. A match Melrose v. Merivale was played at North Patk in wretched weather and Bloppy ground. The Melroso team was two men short, and their places were filed by Halliday and Meklehaiu of tho Sydenham Club The game was an even one r.nd uninteresting, each side scoring a try, and the result was a draw. Jackson scored for Melrose and Menzies for Meriviilo.
