CHRISTCHURCH CORN EXCHANGE REPORT.
The following is the report for tho week curling Friday evening, Juno 28 :— "Wheat — 1 lie market is firmer. There is a bettor feeling evinced on the part of buyers to operate. A moderate business has been transacted dm ing the week. Tho sellers aro somewhat T.ax in their disposition to sell at the recent quotations. There a>'e inquiries for good milling wheat at 4s ''d to 4a od por bushel ; prime Tuscan is saleable at 4s fid per bushel. Sales have been effected for, pressing export orders at 4s 9d por bushel, f.o.b. Tho demand for seed wheat has fallen off, and cannot bo quoted at over 4s nd to 4s 9d per bushel, except for wheat of special qualification"*. Malting Barley —Tho demand for birloy of Hrst-class condition is very strong There are several enquiries for export. Holders of fair average .samples show no inclination to sell. For prime malting barley, 5s to 3s 3d per bushel would bo freely given. Barley of average quality is taken at 4s (5d to 4s 9d per bushel. There is not much bailey offering for f,ald. Tho'general feeling is that high rates will be maintained, Oats. — Thero is no alteration in the value ,of oats. Export orders for priino milling oats at 3s 10(1 per bushel can be executed The local demand for feud oats is baroly supplied. Free sales can be undo at 3s 8d to 3a •9d per bushel. Sellers are not inclined to, do but a limited business at these quotations. (Jra*»B Seed. — Rye grass of tho first quality is in better demand. There are few buyers at Oh pt.'i- bushel. Medium is saleable at 5s to 5s fid per bushel. There is a strong demand for cocksfoot. Holders aro asking as high as 7d per lb. No business has bedh cflectcrat this rate. Potatoes are in increased demand. s Export orders are freely coming to hand. For pressing orders and extra fine samples, L 3 17s fld per ton hat been paid. Tho farmers show no desire to sell at 50« per ton. To do business higher rates would havoto be paid. Cheese and Butter. — Thoro are enquiries for both choeso and butter. The quotation has not altered. Cheese is in demand at .">Jd to Cd por lb. ' lSiltter in prime condition is in request at 9d to 10d por lb.
