GREYMOUTH. July 2.

One of the largest public meetings ever held in Qroymoutii took place last evening for the purpose of considering certain resolutions retating to the unforeseen and unexpected cessation of the harbor works, [n the absence of the Mayor, the County Chairman took the chair, and the following resolutions were can ied with acclamation:— u(l).u (l). That this meeting views with alarm the stoppage of Greymouth harbor works without any apparent 'provision for their continuance. (2.) That tho suspension of the works in the face of the positive srsurance of the Government jjiyeu to the Corporation when that body surrendered its whurfage ard tonnage dues that the works would he continuously prosecuted, would be considered by tjiis meeting us a breach of the terms upon which such dues were handed ove>\ (3.) That the works! already constructed, having had a benefi-

cml effect in deepening tlie water on tbc bar, confirms the opinion that without doubt, if continued, they would make the port accessible to shipping of large tonnage, and thus provide for" the export of the vast mineral resources of the district. (4.) That it is desirable that a deputation, consisting of the member for Grey Valley, the Mayor, the County Chairman, and Messrs Kennedy, Korr, and Harrison, be appointed to wait upon the Ministry for the purpose of urging upon the Government the necessity of prosecuting the harbor works without delay."
