AUCKLAND. May 13.
May A split in tho National Independent Order of Oddfellows has occurred, and a new lodge isjto be formed. A company has been started to erect a Good Templar Hall. A discovery of coal is reported close to Auckland. Lowis Bros l, creditors accepted an assignment. May 14. Mr Harris has retired in favor of Mr Hobbs in the candidature for Franklyn. There will probably be no contest. Mr Hobbs is a strong Ministerial supporter. Mr Vesey Stewart wrote to tho Waste Lands Board stating that he had chartered the Lady Jocelyn to bring his special settlers. Ho further complained of the Agent-General. The correspondence was referred to the Minister for Lands. Sir George Grey has returned. Ho has been in better health the last two day*, notwithstanding his fatigues. He remains at Kawau till Sir J. Coode arrives in the Hinemoa.
