Goino Ahead. — A contemporary informs us that during tho past flvo years no Ic3s than five new insurance companies, with an aggregate capital of L8,000,C30 havo been starteil in Now Zealand.
The Manhood Suffraob Bill. — Tho " Post " is responsible for tho following :—: — Tho Attorney-General, Mr Stout, is now busy supervising tho drafting of tho Manhood Suffrngo Bill, to bo introduced next session by tho Government.
Gold in the Kino Country. — A N"orinanby correspondent writes to the Wang.v nui " Clironiclo" that ho hears on good authority that the Natives haeo discovered Jargo quantities of gold in roofs in tho vicinity of the King country in tho Moakoi.
A Paying Factory. — Tho Chriatchurch papers havo been informed that tho net profits of Messrs Guthrio aud Larnachs factory for tho last six months reached litteen thousand pounds, after allowing for bad debts. It is expected tho profits of tho next half year will be still greater.
Noble Gift. — A vory generous gift has just boon made to tho parish of All Saints', Dunedin, by Messrs Allen Brothers. Tho section ft.ljoinging tho Church, and on which tho sohoolhouso stands, belonged to them, and has been presented by them to the Vestry. Its value is estimated at LGOO.
Resident Magistrate's Court.— Only two unimportant casoa were heard at this Court on Saturday. A man named Evans, charged with having no lawful visible means of support, waa discharged with a caution ; and Jumoi Scott, for drunkenness, also re joivod a caution, and was discharged.
Coubsino. — It will bo seen by our telegrams in another column that tho All-aged Stakes at tho Metropolitan Couroing Meeting at Bushy Park, has been won by Mr W. H. Ronayno's f and w b Camoli*. Camclia is by Red-kail out of Dauntless, and was imported from Australia about 8 months ftgo.
Overtime on the Railway.— -The " Lyttolton Times" of Saturday write* : — It appeAra thftt our paragraph yostorday wan not quite correct. Vouchers have not been signed for the paymont of overtime, but papers have been signed authorising heads of departments on the railways in the Middle Island for the future to pay tftl overtime money.
Football Match. — The opening football match of tho seaion was played on Saturday, sides been chosen by Messrs' Cavorhill find Ferons. Somo voiy good play was indulged in, but tho strength, as tho result proved, was nil on tho side of Ferens, tho scores being : for Ferens' side, 1 goal, 5 touchdowns ; Cavorhill's sido, 2 touchdowns. We learn that Mr Blacklmruo ha 3 consonted to retain tho oflices of Hon. Sec. and Treasurer to tho Club.
