CASHMERE WOOL.
The following is a small beginning of acclimatisation. We may mention that the animal referred to Avill arrive here 8hortly, and is to be put under the charge of Mr John Lemon : — Acclimatisation Society's Office, 30 Swanston-street, Melbourne, January 31st, 1864. Sib, — I have the honor, by direction of the Council of the Acclimatisation Society, to inform you, that in accordance with a request made by the Vice-President, Dr Thomas Black, the Council have decided to place at your disposal a pare bred Cashmere male goat, in order that, by crossing with the common female goat, the experiment may be tried whether the climate of the Middle Island is suitable for the production of the valuable Cashmere wool. If you will be good enough to make arrangements with some person at Dunedin to receive the animal. I will immediately ship him on receipt of your intimation.
