THE OAMARU SHOW AND RACE REPORT.
(To the Editor of the " Daily Times.") Sir.— I am well awaio that tho unfortunate printers or readers of newspapeis too often aie made scapegoats for any " slip of tho pen," whether inserted by accident or satirical intention ; but, on tho present occasion, I can positively aver that a typographical en or only could havo caused tho almost libel inferred as to an'v Bacchanalian propensities on tho paifc of the guests at the Oamaru Show Dinner. My written words were, " 'llio goorl folks of Oam»ru, seeming to boliove nioi'o in DOING than talking ;" whereas tho settei -up carelessly changed this time-worn phrase into "nniXKTNG," thus in&inu.-itinq; a slur that was as unjust as unintentional. One really ncidentnl mistake, however, did occur on my part in writing about the next tlav's to wit— the winner of the Selling luice, " Sam," was named as winning the Ladies' Purse and carrying over-weight in the Town Plato, instead of tho Waitaki hoi so " Hatter." Tho technical account, however, of tho actual running, piovos that tho mistake was ineiely a lnuiied one on the pait of your Special Reporter. [We have examined the copy of our Special Reporter, and tho word doing was very plainly written.—Ed. 0.D.T.l
