While great general activity prevails ia regard to the iihibition, which will certainly open on the 3rd Jan. rox., little more than a month hence, we doubt hefcher the Jnter-colonial show of live stock is nttracmg the attention which it desei yes. On this subject we •print the following from the " Daily Times :"—" At»ntion has already been directed in our columns to the roposed Inter-colonial Live Stock Show, instituted by lessrs Driver and Maclean, and which ia to be held in injunction with the Industrial Exhibition. The enterrising promoters of this undertaking have since anounced, in our advertising columns, the programme of ho intended show, to which we desire to draw the pecial attention of those interested in pastoral and gneultuial pursuits. Prominence is of courso given to Seep, cattle, find horses, but pigs, poiiltry, and other xtra stock are included in the_ catalogue. _ Awards will c given for nineteen classes in sheep, viz, : —for the iiee best and second beet imported merino rams of any ie, and the best and second best imported merino ewes; ir the best and second best meriao rams and ewes, of ny age bred in New Zealand, or any of the Australian ilonies ; for the best and second best two-tooth merino »ms and ewes bred in the colonies; for the best and a cond best merino ram and ewe exibited ; for the best nd second bestLeicesterramandeweof any age; for the «st and second best Cotdwold ram and ewe ot any ago j
)i' the best and second best Southdown ram and ewe of ny'age; for the best and second best Cheviot ram and we of any age ; for the best aud second best pen of ten »t Merino wethers; for the beet and second beat pen of ivo fat wethers of any other breed; for the best and econd best pen of five fat lambs. In cattle there will !e awards for thirteen classes, -for the best and second eat exhibits, under the the following classification.:— lull and cow of the Durham breed, ditto of any breed J ows of any age for dairy purposes; bulls under three ears of age; heifers under three years ; bulls, under ivo years, of any breed ; heifers, under two years, of ny bleed ; fat oxen ; fat cows; working bulloeke, in airs, and teams of six. There are twenty classes of orses in which awards will be made, embracing nine lases of imported, and colonial bred draught horses and nares ; plough horses ; seven classes of thorough-bred rnportedand colonial horses and mares; hacks }< carriage loi sen, and ponies. Awards will be given in seven Usses of pigs and eight classes of poultry. Aβ there is ot much time before the opening of the Exhibition, it ? very desirable that intending exhibitors should commnicate with Me&srs Driver and Maclean with as little lelay ap possible, and we hope the owners and breeders f fcfcock will warmly second the efforts of the promoters f an exhibition calculated to exeit a vtry beneficial ifluence on the pastoral and agricultural interests of bo colony."
The usual fortnightly Escort arrived on the 15th inst., ringing down 11,304 ozs, 17 dwt. of gold.
