OAMARU RACES.

FEIDAY, 11th NOVEMBER, 1864. Stewabds :

M. Noble, Esq., E. Julius, Esq., A. Dansey, Esq., E. Gibson, Esq. CIERK OF THE G'OTTBSE : Herbert Julius, Esq. Stabtek : A. Patterson, Esq. Judge j E. Thomson, Esq.

The revival of racing at Oaraaru, took place on the 11th instant, under most unpropitious circumstances. The morning had been bright and hot, but some dark clouds which had been hanging threateningly in the horizon, suddenly gathered over the devoted course, and jusi as the saddl ing-bell was ringing for the first race, down came the rain in tonents ; nor was there a single brtak in the weather afterwards. Sunshine \va3 only wanting to make the meeting a success ; 'for, if the clerk of the weather was sulky, the clerk of the course was most .gracious, save when he had to frown in the discharge of his duties. In fact, all the officials seemed to vie with each other in their exertions to bring the meeting to a satisfactory conclusion in spite of the weather. The fiist race was the Ladies' Purse, for which there were six competitors. The " i latter," w'bo belongs to Mr Bro mi, of the Waitaki Ferry, took everyone by surprise, for he went off with a bound, and, making all the running, won as he liked, Rob being a bad second, and evidently short of work. Ihe nexPrace was a Selling Hack Race, in heats, for which nine horses came to the post, and it was the best race of the day. Tife' dinner (Sam) was sold after the race, and broug it four sovereigns to the race fund. The Tovnj Plate was next on the list. It was won very easily by the "Doctor." Boomerang, who hid several friends, let his horses get away from luin at starting, and could never catch them. The Hack Hurdle Race came next, and was won by Poison, but he was objected to by- the rider of Wild Harry, The Consolation Handicap only brought three starters to the post, and was an easy victory for Rob, 'lhe following ia an account of the racing :~ LADIES' PFRSE
