Mr "Warden Robinson, in his official report from the Duncan, of 13th August, says : - "On enquiry ai> the Gold Receiver's office, I have found that a man ha 3 deposited over seven pounds weight, and that he stated that a portion of the quantity was obtained at the heed of» the JEarnscleugh River. Most of the gold, however, appeared to be river gold. It is by no means desirable that there should be any rush towards the head of the Earnscleugh at this inclement season." The Invercargill papers report that some four pcond* in nuggets of rich creek gold, had been sold thnre— whence derived, thero ii no mention.
