Gauibaldi's Cobeespondence. — I spent an amusing hour in looking over the gems of Garibaldi's correspondence. In one of them a young man of Hull, relying on the noble sentnnenrs of Mr Garibaldi, begged for some employment, as things h.id been going queer -with him for some time past In another a Viennese doctor declared that lie Mas in possession of an infallible receipe to cure the gout. After he had succeeded in atlectmg six hundred cures, he ventured to oiler \m gen ice6 to the hero of Italy. All Garibaldi's doctors were to collect some fifty gout patients, prepare the cure, and he would complete it. The result should then be laid before the eyes of astounded Europe ; but the secret, which the Aubtnan Government was trying to extort from the discoverer, not. An immediate answer was requested, as the discoverer had an excellent opportunity at the time forgetting away. So far as I am av, are, Garibaldi followed mj advice, and left all thebe letters unanswered. — Bentley. In a certain Highland glen a staunch Established Churchman was one day op lus way home from church, and met one of his Dissenting brethern The latter asked the former if he got a good sermon from Mr. , to which the former gentleman gave the following rather strange reply—" Indeed, sir, I did not expect to get a good bemion, but I went there for a certain reason." As a matter of course the reason was abked, after which the worthy gentleman continued — " Our congregation is a rather singular one ; it is composed of three parts. The first division, of which I form a part myself, goes there to gain the favour of the factor; the second does so to get a general good name ; and the third goes there in order that it may pass a part of Sunday, since it is always considered to be a long day. — Elgin Courier.
