SCHOOL BOARD.
A special meeting of the District School Board was convened by circular at the School-house yesterday afternoon, to arrange for the assessment of rates for the current year and other business. There were present : Messrs Locke, Payne, and Shrimski. The minutes of previous meeting were read and confirmed. Mr Payne informed the meeting that Mr Locke had, in accordance with a resolution passed at a previous meeting, accepted the office of Hon. Treasurer to the Board. Mr Locke moved, and Mr Payne seconded, that Mr Paradise's salary for the quarter ending March 31st, and amounting to £50, be paid. Carried. Amount for cleaning the schoolroom for the quarter ending 31st March, was ordered to be paid. Mr Shrimski moved that the Secretary be instructed to have 250 circulars, for the use of the schoolmaster, printed. Mr. Locke thought that owing to the smallness of the meeting, and the absence of the Secretary, it would be advisable not to entertain the idea of appointing an assessor until a larger meeting was obtained, and that in the meantime an assessor might be advertised for in the local paper. It was then moved by Mr. Shrimski, and seconded by Mr. Payne, that the Secretary be instructed to advertise in the Oamaru Times for an assessor, applications, stating terms, to be left with the Secretary on or before Wednesday, the 20th inst. This closed the busines sand the meeting adjourned sine die.
