Captain Godfrey was fined 10b. and 255. costs for using firearms within the town boundary. Mr Locke was also fined 10b. and costs lor an offence of the same nature. Charles Newman, brought up on warrant charged with obtaining goods under false pretences. Francis ITenry Armstrong said — I am in the employment of Mr France, and act as manager of his business in his abbcnco. On Friday, the 4th instant, during the absence of Mr France, the prisoner cumo to the shop and said he wanted to purchase some goods. I questioned him as to his means of paying, and he replied that he had some steers running on Mr Teschmaker's btation, and that he intended belling them -within a fortnight, and would then pay me. On the strength of this statement, I let him hare goods to the amount of £10 14g. 6d. On the Monday following, I &a\v Mr Teschemaker, and on inquiry learned that the prisoner had no cattle of any kind running on his run. On the strength of Ihi» statement, I had a warrant taken out for his apprehension. The goods produced I identify as being those I sold him.
