Puckey who some time ago purchased the section and building owned by Mr. H. H. Dacre in Commerce street, Kaitaia, has let a contract to Mr. T. Clements for a twostory building on the section comprising two shops on the ground floor, and dental rooms on the top floor. The section has a 40-foot frontage. One of the shops is to be occupied by a fii m of grocers, and the other by a butcher. The butcher shop is to be right in line with city, requirements, including a refrigerator, and sanitation will be a first consideration. Mr. Puckey owns the block of adjoining shops and the decorative and tiled work in the front elevation of these will be continued with the new building, bringing the whole block into uniformity. Flectric lighting will be provided by the plant now in use for two other shops The dental parlours are to be according to the latest design and will be reached by a wide staircase so constructed as to make ascent easy. Mr. present dental rooms are to be shifted to the back of Mr. Yendell’s shop and until the new rooms are ready will continue to serve their old purpose. After that the building will be converted into a dwelling house.

Some of the latest Auckland tramcars instead of being divided into smoking and non-smoking compartments, now consist of one long car into which smokers and non-smokers crowd indiscriminately, and if the non-smokers don’t like it they can lump it. Good ! Railways please copy. Separate compartments or carriages were provided on trams or trains when a whiff of tobacco smoke made lady passengers “ill” or so they said. But now they smoke anything themselves ! Of course if someone puffs a foul old pipe charged with rank tobacco and sits alongside you, his proximity may be unpleasant. But most folks smoke “toasted” now and even nonsmokers can hardly object, the bouquet is so delightful. There are other points too, about toasted. The flavour is really extraordinarily good, and toasting absorbs the nicotine and makes the only genuine toasted brands, Cut Plug No. 10 (Bullshead), Navy Cut No. 3 (Bulldog), Cavendish, Riverhead Gold and Desert Gold safe for the smoker. But don’t get stung when you buy ! The imitations are worthless ! M. 654.

NORTH AUCKLAND COLOURS Revert to Cambridge Blue The North Auckland Rugby Union intends this year to revert to the Cambridge blue for its representative colours. In 1921 the blue was introduced as North Auckland’s colours and rowing clubs began to adopt the same colour which was good from a tradi-

tional point of view. For some reason or other it was changed in 1931 to white but officials declare that it would be advisable to change back to blue this season. The Bay sub-union has consented to the suggestion.
