Club House in Kaitaia.—The need for a permanent home for the Association in Kaitaia, being recognised by members, a discussion took place on ways and means of securing this, it being decided that an energetic campaign for funds be commenced. Messrs. W. Dawson and B. Biggwither offered to donate logs for the sawing up of timber required, while Mr. G. Rickard offered a section in Commerce street for the erection of the Club, if the section that was originally set aside for this purpose cannot be secuied from the Lands Department into whose hands it has passed. A general meeting of the Association will be called for the purpose of discussing this question. It is anticipated that logs for all the timber inquired will be donated by members and that during the next year a handsome sum could be raised for the purpose. A committee consisting of the president, Messrs. L. A. Mclntosh, G. Rickard and J. O’Sullivan was appointed to go into the whole question and report to a later meeting. Years ago the Association had a fund of £BOO for the pui'pose of erection of a club room but the building was not proceeded with and the money was handed over for the erection of the Kaitaia hospital. CASE AGAINST HARRY CHRISTENSEN SQUASHED Grand Jury Said No Case for Supreme Court At the Supreme Court sitting in Auckland this week the case against Harry Christensen for negligent driving so as to cause death, arising out of the accident on the Waipapakauri load after the sports, when two natives lost their lives through falling from Christensen’s lorry, was squashed by the Grand Jury. In giving the verdict of No Bill, the foreman said the evidence showed that at the corner near where the accident occurred the camber was on the wrong side of the road, so that it was necessary for the safety of trucks to round the corner on the wrong side. The camber came to an end suddenly, and the result was that the persons were thrown off the truck as it righted itself when coming to the level. The jury had suggested to the surveyor concerned that the attention of the Public Woi'ks Department should be called to the position, as it might cause other accidents. His Honor said these representations would be forwarded to the proper quarter, and he had no doubt that action would be taken. The primary roll of the Kaitaia school is 255 and the average attendance last month was 243.3. The secondary division roll is 64 and the average attendance 61.4.
