The Roadless North.

TO THE EDITOR. Sir,—From day to day we hear pitiful tales of hardships which travellers have to endure while travelling in the roadless North. Am of the opinion that the north of Auckland people could not live without a plentiful supply of real mud. You have only to go to the bridge over the Kaitaia river to be fully convinced of that fact. There you will find two feet of mud on the decking, and I am told that a man was paid 8/- per day to put it there. I think I am safe in saying that you could not find such a state of affairs existing in any other part of New Zealand. S.M.B.
