Another Nuisance.
TO THE EDITOK. Sir, —I notice, in perusing a recent issue of the “Mangonui County Times,” that a complaint has been made to the effect that cattle wandering at large in your township are becoming a veiy great nuisance, especially by reason of their deposits. I think it is time that this was remedied, as there is not only the disagreeable nuisance, but also the danger to people’s Ijves. But another matter i'or complaint, that I wish to bring before the readers of your valuable paper, is the fact of dead animals being allowed to float up and down with the tide; in the Oruru Biver. At present there are three or four dpad cattle lying within a few hundred yards of each other in this river. Now, as your readers are aware, this river at low water is a highway used by the travelling public nearly as much as the Beach Bead is used by your fellow townsmen. I think you will agree with me that something ought to be done to stop persons throwing dead cattle into this river. The travelling public no doubt have their different tastes as regards perfumes—some prefer eau-de-cologne, others attar of roses—but, my word, very few iikfe to have their olfactory organs greeted with the fragrance if dead cow in the near stages of putrefaction. 1 t B.IATRTET? , '
