AFyAiEB at Scutaei. — There are now four hospitala&t Scutari: the ' Barrack,' ' General,' 'Palace,' and ' Harem,' capable altogether of accommodating 3,000 patients. Fifty-four of the medical staff died last year. At present the wards are nearly empty — 1,750 spare beds. The arrangements made here by that ' king of cooks, 1 M. Soyer, have tended much to help the sick, who now revel m chicken broth, jelly, &c. The nurses and Sisters of Charity are a great acquisition ; they add very much to tho comforts of our brave fellows. Miss Nightingale is everywhere. She was seen the other day standing and assisting at the bedside of a poor fellow whose arm was being amputated. She must be a woman of wonderful nerve to witness what she is daily obliged to do. When either the ! sick return to England, or the convalescents to the Crimea, each man receives from her a small bag : for the former the contents are a few oranges, tea, or something suitable for an invalid ; for the latter (those going to the seat of war), pocket knives, i a looking-glass, tooth-comb, comforters, chocolate, tobacco, &.c. A Word to Employees. — There is a limit to toil set by God. He who has given bounds to tho ocean — wlio lias placed the duration of light and darkness under rule — who has put all things .under law — whose universe is an embodiment of order, has made it ira- 1 possible to continue toil beyond a certain limit without detriment. And if that limit be past, injury succeeds. The man made rich by the long-hour system may be a murderer of men — the destroyer of morals and happiness — the adversary of souls ; and may hold riches as Judas held the thirty pieces of silver— his gains may be the price of blood !— Reo. S. Martin, Westminster.
