Fatal Accident. — A few days ago, a lad named Askew, about twelve years of age, the youngest son of Mr. Askew, of the Riwaka, was drowned in crossing the Motueka River, by the upsetting of a bullock cart. This is the third brother of the family who has met his death from drowning. The eldest son was drowned about seven year 3 ago, in crossing the Bay, by the capsizing of his boat in a squall, when the second brother, Mr. T. Askew, of Bridge-street, who was also in the boat at the time, managed to reach the shore, in a state of great exhaustion, by the assistance of the oars; the second loss was Mr. G. Askew, master of the Necromancer, who was drowned in the Wairau a few months ago, and the third is the poor lad whose death we now record.
