TOWN OF NELSON.

On Monday last, the election of two members to represent the town of Nelson in the General Assembly took place at the Court House. The polling commenced at ten o'clock, and was maintained with great briskness for the two first hours, after which it began to flag. The contest was an unusually severe one, and only a very small number of the electors who were within a reasonable distance of the polling place failed to record their votes. In addition to the polling in the town, votes have also been taken in the Wairau, but these, when they are known, cannot reverse the decision of the town electors, while it is expected they will go to increase the majority of the successful candidates. We are, therefore, able to say that Mr. Stafford and Mr. Domett are the elected representatives of Nelson, although the official declaration of their election may not take place for a few 1 days. The polling for a member to represent the district of Motueka. in the General Assembly took place at Motueka and in Nelson, on Wednesday last. Mr. Salisbury having intimated to the electors that it was his intention to withdraw from the contest, the polling was viewed with very little interest.
